Why do we study land surveying
It controls factors such as elevation, horizontal position and dimensions. These measurements will be used to stakeout the lines and grades for buildings, infrastructure and fences. A floodplain or elevation survey determines the elevation of a building or piece of land, to determine if it is within a flood plain. This type of survey is commonly used by property insurance companies to calculate risk and insurance costs. When one piece of land is divided into two or more parcels, a lot split survey will be used to provide the legal title and description of the resulting parcels.
A property owner should not commence construction projects without determining local regulations pertaining to land survey requirements. Land surveys can take months to complete. Keep this in mind when purchasing property or planning construction projects. Photos Courtesy of: freedigitalphotos. My sister and her husband own some land, and they are wanting to make it into a building that they can rent out, but this is the first time they do something like this, so we are figuring out every step of the process.
If I were in their situation and owned so much land, I would just take a loan to be able to pay in advance for the services to the land surveyors and the construction workers needed and wait until I make revenue from the building to be able to pay it back. I never knew that you might want a land survey if you are going to build a fence between you and your neighbor. It makes sense because you want the fence to be on your property and not theirs. We will have to get a surveyor to survey our property lines so we can tell where we can build a fence for our yard.
Thanks for your information about land surveys. We want to install a fence. My sister has been telling me about how she wants to buy a new space soon, and she wants to know how large it really is. When people see surveyors out in the field they may not think it is that difficult, that it is a bunch of people standing behind a theodolite and going home at the end of the day.
Surveying is a science that has been shaping our world for hundreds of years in its modern form. Our world is based on measurement and mathematics, and surveying brings them to life. At its core, most surveys are the basis for measuring the natural and built environment and then further mapping and modeling accompanies that.
While on their own, the individual data points are isolated and not all that helpful, when used together they create a bigger picture. Surveying can be used for several different applications. The data that surveyors collect is used by architects, engineers of all types, construction managers and foreman, quarry managers, accountants, economists, estate agents, planning agencies, government officials, councils, homeowners and landlords, and many other people.
