Shouldn't it be either Bayern Muenchen - or Bavaria Munich? Why somebody should translate only the city and not the state into English is beyond me, though. Having said that, Bavaria Munich sounds as stupid as Arsenal London which you sometimes read in German and Austrian newspapers. Its only half translated in English, but the correct name is not half-English. There are examples of English influenced names in Europe though, most surviving from the early part of the century when England was still seen as the home of football, and some retaining English names after being founded and named by English speakers.
It's only English commentators' ignorance of the meaning of "Bayern" that results in the "Misch-Masch". By the way, surely Bavaria is our word for the German Bayern, not the other way around.
