As the evacuation begins, however, an air-raid siren sounds, sending everybody indoors. When it seems that all has returned to normal and that the evacuation will proceed as planned, the resistance movement strikes, driving the SS from the camp. I think they have both come to represent the only reason for living to the other. Elie seems to have constant suicidal thoughts, but his want to stay with his father always seems to slightly deter them. The reason the Elie was able to keep going was a result of his father.

Throughout the whole book Elie wanted to stay close to his father. One person who didn 't make it was Meir Katz, he lost his son in. Father and sons wouldn't even look at each other, some even killed one another for food or they are delusional. That was the Holocaust, over 1 million jews killed.
