Disneyland when is it busy
Historically, the official holiday season begins in mid-November and continues through the first week in January of the next year. The holidays transform the entire resort with the trappings and trimmings of the season. Ginormous Christmas trees, holiday overlays, special holiday entertainment, seasonal treats and so much more can be found during the holidays at Disneyland. If you want to experience the Holidays at the Disneyland Resort without the crowds, the best time to go to Disneyland is either mid-November right after the holidays officially kick-off OR the week after Thanksgiving into the first week of December.
For the bargain hunter, the best time to go to Disneyland is any time during non-peak travel season. One other major factor in getting the lowest price for your Disneyland vacation is booking in advance. Not surprising, but the best specials sell out first. Final payment is due five days before travel, which gives you as much flexibility as you need. And along the lines of flexibility, we recommend our Peace of Mind Plan which also allows you to make as many changes as you need to without paying any change fees.
No matter when you decide is the best time to visit Disneyland, make sure you download the official Disneyland App. It will keep you posted on all the events, ride closures and more while you are in the Resort.
The Disneyland App can help you locate Characters throughout the parks and it is your access to MaxPass , which allows you to electronically request FastPass. While FastPass is a free service, MaxPass is an additional cost per person that makes FastPass even easier to use, and has other perks like unlimited PhotoPass downloads for the day. With the Disneyland App keeping you up to date on all the current happenings at Disneyland, you will make the most of your trip no matter when you go.
We hope this helped you narrow down the best time to go to Disneyland for your family! One thing we like to say regularly is that the best time to go to Disneyland is when you CAN go to Disneyland. As you can see, Disneyland is magical year round and there are so many ways to have a wonderful experience regardless of when you can make the trip.

Thanks for stopping by our blog. We are looking at Wed. Do you think the crowds will be about the. In terms of crowds, most days have been selling out so crowd levels have been consistent though we still find them to be manageable with limited capacity in place! Both days have long hours and all of the entertainment in place, so either would be good! We would like to visit the park on December 7 or 8. December 7 is a Merriest Nites evening which we won't be attending.
Which day would be less crowds We know the park closes early on the Merriest Nites day and that's OK with us if it means a lighter crowd during the day. Would love some insight! Crowds have been pretty consistent lately. Since Merriest Nites is a new event, we don't know exactly how it will affect crowds, but because it will have limited attendance, we wouldn't expect a huge difference between party nights and non-party nights.
We'd go with the 8th since the park closes early on the 7th, so you can catch the fireworks and evening entertainment. I saw your crowd calendar said that the Disney Festival of Holidays starts on November What does that mean?
Will the park be decorated with Christmas decorations already? I was going to be in LA from November 6 to November 13, so I was wondering which days I should go that wouldn't be the busiest, but would still have that holiday magic. Holiday Time at Disneyland Resort begins Nov. Check out our guide for all the details on the holiday hoppenings.
Both parks would be fully decorated. If you were to go before the 12th, you may still see some decorations popping up, but all of the other festivities such as treats, "it's a small world" Holiday, etc. I only just saw that D23 ends on the 11th, do you think the parks will be extremely busy the week we've booked as a result of D23?
Mid-September is generally a great time to visit! You might see more people on that Sunday, but the weekdays shouldn't be too crowded. While the reservation system has been spreading guests out more historically very low days have seen a rise in crowds since it's a day that the Tier 1 tickets would be valid , we still think crowds overall would be relatively low to average. Possibly visit the park February Any idea why it's so high if it's a less-busy time?
Holiday Time will run a bit longer than usual this year, as it's hoppening until Jan. It should be less crowded than the week before but might be busier than the following week due to people getting their last holiday thrills in. With kids back in school though, it should not be too crowded. The prices are higher since it includes all of the holiday entertainment.
Did you mean Jan ? Just curious if the holiday causes it to be busy for so long. Thank you! Why is October , forecasted to be busy? Is it a break time for kids or are there special events there? I already have a trip booked for Dec. I just heard that 2 of those days will have the Merriest Nites event. I do not plan to go to those events. Is it better to go to Disneyland the day of the these events or California Adventure?
Disneyland closes early on party days at 8 p. If you are park hopping, you can start in Disneyland Park and hop any time after 1 p. I understand March- April is spring break season, but something looks super questionable that I might need your help looking into.
The rest of March looks relatively normal. Is there something going on those specific dates?! It's very strange! It appears that Expo West an industry event will take place from March , , at the Anaheim Convention Center which is located across from Disneyland. Hope this helps!
Debating on the visiting the parks November 2nd - 4th or November 16th th. First time going and would like fewer crowds. Would Christmas decorations be worth the deciding factor between the two dates? In both cases, you're looking at weekdays which are generally better than weekends. If Christmas decorations and entertainment are important to you, then we'd think it's worth going later. Holiday Time is one of our favorite times of the year and you'll get more Disney holiday magic then, but also keep in mind that Disneyland Park closes early on the 16th for the Disney Merriest Nites party.
November 2nd-4th will be slightly less crowded and you may still see some holiday decorations going up but it's not guaranteed. I'm hoping to do a park hopper pass with two friends on Friday, September 24th for my birthday.
Do you predict it will be crazy busy that day? How long do you think the lines will be? On Fridays, the crowds come later at night after work to see fireworks, so expect the evening to be more crowded than the daytime but still manageable. I have reservations for October , but I'm thinking about rescheduling. I noticed on a few different crowd trackers that week is rather busy, but on yours it is predicting less busy. I'm bringing my 1 year old and want to avoid crowds so we can social distance and we can't afford to go again so I'm thinking cut my losses and reschedule for February?
I would love some advice! How busy are we talking? Shoulder to shoulder? The park capacity is still limited by theme park reservations, so the parks aren't as busy as they could be and haven't been close to being shoulder-to-shoulder.
The Utah fall break falls around that time for some schools but not all. We'd suggest sticking with the October visit. My family and I are thinking of going to Disneyland on Sep. Which of those days is the best to go? All of those dates are good options! If you're also planning to hop over to Disney California Adventure, just keep in mind that on the 23rd, the park will close early for Oogie Boogie Bash, which takes place that night.
Our family of 5 ages is planning a trip on Tuesday and Monday for late January during lunar new year, is this a smart choice? My wife and I are going November 1 and 2, and I've been trying to get reservations for things such as Carthay's and Savi's Lightsaber experience Am I missing something?
We are hoping for weekdays after a Holiday to be pretty slow relatively speaking. Restaurants and other experiences can release them up to 60 days, but some locations open reservations after the day mark.
There is no announcement for this, so we just encourage you to keep checking, as more spaces could be released later or open up due to cancellations.
They could also be waiting until they confirm park or location hours before releasing reservations. For instance, it's a transitional time between Halloween and Christmas, so they could be waiting to see if park hours will change.
It's one of our favorite and least-crowded times to visit, so there's also a chance for walk-up availability but not guaranteed if you do not snag a reservation. I have a squad of four, and they range from 14 - 5, so a ton of my vacation planning is based around their school breaks I know worst times typically.
Am I absolutely crazy to look at Dec 20th - Jan 1st?! It is worth noting that we will be traveling from the Pacific island of Guam, so a Disneyland Christmas is my kids' dream vacation. No, you're not crazy! But you should pack some patience if you visit during that time, as it's the busiest time of the year.
If you take several days to enjoy the parks, you'll be in good shape. Arrive early in the morning, maybe take a break midday and return for evening entertainment, so you can be there during the least crowded hours. However, Disneyland controls capacity with a reservation system now, so this year could be less crowded than past years.
Purchase your tickets in advance early and avoid Dec. For some reason in past years, the parks always hit capacity on Dec. And get your dining reservations 60 days in advance! My husband and I are finally going on our late honeymoon to Disneyland September 18th through the 23rd. September, especially weekdays, is generally a great time to visit.
Congratulations, and have fun! I am planning to visit disneyland for one day only on the first week of January but I need an advise, which is better monday or tuesday or January 3 or 4.
Tuesdays in general are less crowded than Mondays, so we prefer Tuesday. Plus it is one day further away from the holiday weekend. Many people extend the holiday to Monday, so Tuesday should be lighter. Have a great trip! We plan on going November 1st-5th this year. My logic on less crowds is most families will be planning their trips for their Thanksgiving breaks, thus less crowds. Fingers crossed???????? I was so optimistic looking at wait times over the last week that we would have similarly low wait times.
But now I have learned that Oogie Boogie bash starts that weekend and annual pass holders will have recently been allowed to start coming.
Thinking of taking a spontaneous last minute trip to Disneyland Aug 31 - Sept 3 since it looks like crowds should be low and hotels are cheap! But now that the park is back to full capacity, are the rides running at full capacity too or still slower? Without FastPasses, I'm worried we'll hit long, packed lines even on these potentially slower days. Any thoughts? Rides have returned to operating at full capacity, and even since the parks reopened, lengthy wait times have been pretty rare we personally have not waited in too many long lines.
We do anticipate that some crowds may return once the Magic Key program starts Aug. But it's still generally a good time of year to go since schools are back in session plus you'll be visiting on weekdays. Hi from canada thinking of going to disneyland august how will crowd levels be and line ups. We would like to visit Disneyland in April , do you by any chance know approximately when Disneyland will open this time up so that we can make our reservations.
Appreciate any info. Our best suggestion is to check back once a week in the meantime. Additionally, you can only reserve theme park reservations days in advance.
Crowds are a bit harder to predict this year with the ever-changing health situation, but typically yes, it's a good time to visit. We're so excited the Disneyland is open again.. We're from Canada and thinking about coming down over Christmas.. What are the chances we get our park tickets and reservations and not be able to get in? It's hard to predict how busy it will be during the holidays this year and what the parks' capacity will be like by then.
But if you have park tickets and reservations, you shouldn't worry too much about not getting in based on what we know now. Currently, capacity is still very limited, but even on the "sold-out" days, crowds have been manageable and wait times have been fairly low. We have yet to run into any issues with not getting into the parks due to capacity limits. We really want to see the Halloween decor and will be mixing our visit with other SoCal activities.
How busy will the parks be on non Oogie Boogie Bash days? We don't know for sure what the capacity will be like in October, but that week, being fall break for a number of schools, is usually a popular time.
I see that you have predicted busy times for summer this year ending August 11th? Is there a reason for that specific date? Was looking at a trip to LA August , would that be a good time all things considered or should we wait until end of March We have left over tickets. It's harder to predict Disneyland crowds this year, but many schools go back mid-August so the demand generally goes down.
We've made a bunch of trips since the parks have reopened, including sold-out days, and so far, we still have not encountered very large crowds or long lines. At this point, the heat may be a downside and some experiences may be unavailable, but things are returning quickly. There are still some things left up in the air — we don't know holiday dates or the Annual Passholder status just yet.
But in general, it's likely you'll catch the tail-end of the holiday season, which could make it busy but likely nothing too extreme. Thanks for all the information! Also, is it a good plan to go on separate days or would you go on consecutive days?
The week after Thanksgiving is a great time to visit! Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday tend to be the quietest days since they're in the middle of the week. We think it's a good idea to break up your park visits if you can, particularly if you want to rest in between.
There is a lot of walking and standing involved, so back-to-back days can be harder on your back and feet. The first half of October can bring in crowds especially over the weekends due to some school districts in Utah and Arizona having fall breaks. Weekdays may still be busy due to these fall breaks, as we expect a crowd level 6. Both of your proposed timeframes are great times to visit!
The park should have holiday decor and entertainment either way you choose. All things being equal, we'd suggest November for slightly warmer temperatures and a little bit longer daylight hours. It could also be slightly less crowded before crowds start to build as it gets closer to the holidays.
Hi, is the end of January or end of February better for crowds and weather? What rides are closed? Thank you!! Usually, it's a very comfortable time for walking around. However, there is the chance of rain. The end of January might be slightly less crowded than February due to Presidents Day falling during the last week of February in , but neither are terribly crowded except for Presidents Day weekend.
Some rides may undergo refurbishments at that time, but they have not been announced yet. But in , it was the removal of the Haunted Mansion Holiday, so it may vary. When will they open up reservations for ? At least online, the hotel reservation calendar only goes as far as December Usually, Disneyland Hotel doesn't start booking hotel stays for the next calendar year until the end of summer, so we'd suggest checking the reservation calendar around August.
Back in Mid-May, we purchased tickets and made reservations for June 22nd. Even though Disneyland says it is opening up fully after June 15th, I have not seen any new reservations available on our selected day.
Is that good news that they are not allowing any additional people so far? I assume you will still need to make reservations even if you plan to go after June 15th.
Is that a correct assumption? Availability is subject to change, so Disney could potentially add reservations at any time. But yes, reservations will still be required beyond June We live in Alberta Canada and are planning a trip to Disneyland maybe October 24 25 26 I heard they shut down its a small world to decorate for xmas.
How do I find out when ,so I don't book then. We have a post all about Disneyland ride refurbishments here. Why are weekends in the last two weeks of August recommended rather than middle of the week in the end of August? I would expect weekdays are always less busy the weekend. We are planning to go Monday August 30th through the 1st of September but would we be better off going Saturday and Sunday August 28th and 29th? Weekends are generally more crowded than weekdays, even now with every day selling out.
In the past, annual passholder blackouts were lifted on those weekdays in August, so many local guests would visit on the weekdays near the end of the month. But this year, with no annual passes to worry about and a lot of kids back in school by late August, your dates are a good time to visit. My family just secured a stay at Grand Californian from Feb 14 through Do you foresee this being a decent time to visit Disneyland? Since it's the week before the President's Day holiday, it should be a great time to visit.
Sometimes there are even character couples and decorations out for Valentine's Day. There can be rain in February, so just be sure to check the weather forecast to be prepared before your visit.
My friend and I are deciding between the week before Halloween or sometimes in late Jan. What do you think is best? I know the Halloween decorations may lure people but you have 2nd half of Oct as a good time! You honestly can't go wrong with either time! It can still be warm during that time of year. Meanwhile, late January is a comfortable time to visit and usually is not crowded, but there is always a chance of rain. The days are also a bit shorter with the parks getting dark earlier.
Why would the second half of october be better less busy than the first half? I thought it would get busier closer to Halloween.
There are several states that have fall breaks that fall in the first half of October, including Utah and Arizona, which bring in more crowds. Now that you have decided when you want to visit Disneyland, it is time to book your trip.

Thank you so much for putting all this together. You have answered all my questions!! As for crowds- either date selection will have a similar crowd level that might be higher certain days with Spring Break season.
This is very helpful. How are crowds Jan 2nd. We ar going to the Rose Bowl and then want to go the day after. Thank you. Yes, there will be! Would it be super crowded Tuesday may 14th. If you arrive early, use FastPass, and have a plan for the day it will make navigating any crowds much easier. Is there anything we can do in adavance to get to see this? I would recommend getting there as early as possible, that first day is going to be hectic. If it were me, I would line up two hours before the park even opens!
Good luck! Disneyland will typically be crowded around any holiday weekends so you can expect Thanksgiving weekend to be busy. I would aim for earlier or later in the month, if you can. We are visiting in January , have 4 day hopper passes and looking to go 19,20,21,22,23 of January. Which days would be better to go and how busy do you think it will be given Martin Lurther King day on the 20th.
Hi hoping you can help! My family and I are planning a trip to Disneyland this October. My question is what would be the better week to go? The or ? But keep in mind this is a busy time of year for Disneyland regardless so you should be prepared for some higher crowd levels! Looking at the third week of January. How will the crowds look? Although, it may still be busy either way since this ride is much anticipated! I have been to both Disneyland and Disney at least, I kid you not at least 30 times since I was 18 years.
Moved back to my home and it opened within one week! Last year I made another attempt to experience it again.
