Can you shoot 45 acp in taurus judge

I would say NO, you can't shoot. A quick search turned up an online Taurus manual. It is important to note that these are the only caliber substitutions that will function. Attempting to substitute other calibers can damage your firearm and may result in accidental death or serious injury.

You would need moon beam clips for 45 ACP and I do not believe the cylinder on the Judge is set up for them. Or read above. Andy Griffith. I would contact Tom Killhoffer at Moonclips. I also believe Clark Custom will do it also. Just need to send in the cylinder and yoke assembly- not the whole gun to get it machined. It has been reported that factory Taurus tracker moonclips for. Don't try any other hotter.

Last edited by Andy Griffith; at PM. I would think, based on my experience with shooting ACP's out of my , that the rounds would tend to key hole, and the accuracy would be inconsistent at best. It is a long haul down the cylinder bore to the throats for a 45ACP.

Why not just reload the 45 colt's? Yes, it can, using after market moon clips, there is even a youtube video of it working, but If you do use it I'd use standard pressure FMJ only, but ideally assuming he doesn't reload maybe go to reman 45 LC or something along those lines to keep costs down. One note on moon clips in case you or your son aren't familiar with them -- some of those things can be a complete pain to unload.

They have tools for it, but I had a guy take the carry class and use the moon clips for a Governor for the first time and I'm not sure blasting caps were going to get the shell casings out of it when he went to reload. Regardless, he may find them to be something of a pain to use. I recently had a customer bring me an out of time, generally all screwed up judge I sent it back to Taurus When I received it back, there was a description of what was done to correct the problems..

Don't know why ACP and not. Strange, here in E. I've found more. Not approved, I wouldn't either. One of the reasons I bought the Governor and not the judge.

The last three rounds of that load were fired fast DA, at the head of a B27, after walking away from it 7 paces and turning around.

Average velocity was This is reflected in easy extraction and the normal appearance of fired cases and primers. But here we are dealing with a pistol load, essentially fired in a shotgun chamber. These numbers indicate that were getting into normal handgun load performance, despite the shotgun chamber.

As a bonus, leading all but disappeared. I sat on a rain slicker thrown over a soaked canvas hunting chair, with my legs crossed and shooting over one knee. The damned, rain-crazed flies were biting like they were auditioning for the lead part in Twilight. Then there are those sights, which are great for quick DA work up close; but they suck for precise shooting at distance.

This will no doubt get better on a dry day, shooting from a proper rest. I can live with this, considering that the Public Defender is a two-inch, fixed-sight revolver that just happens to shoot 45 Colts. Mine will see almost exclusive use with that grand old cartridge.

This load has adequate velocity for vermin regardless of their leg count. Anyhow I ordered a 5 pack of moon clips and determined to make them work. I removed about 0. The firing pin still sits below flush and headspace has not changed significantly, so there should be no negatives with this modification for standard-pressure 45 Colt or shot-shells.

It did require a complete tear-down and I slicked things up a little, while I was in there. The target represents 20 rounds fired double-action at 15 yards and I flubbed a few out of the bull until I figured out I needed to hold just under the red dot on the target. It was shooting a good six inches high and there are essentially no aftermarket front sights available for this revolver.

So the answer was to remove metal from the top of the frame at the rear sight notch. I turned to Brownells Sight Correction Calculator for the answer.

I covered the topstrap with electrical tape and grabbed my freshest Nicholson N and set to work- very slowly and taking measurements every third stroke. A slug is very light for caliber and penetration will be poor. Can a slug kill a bear? Yes, but the odds of it happening in an acceptable amount of time are not good.

The shorter cylinder of the Public Defender means this model will not accept 3-inch magnum. Your email address will not be published. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment.

Skip to content The answer is no you cannot shoot 45 AR ammo in the Judge. Do they make slugs for a shotgun? Can you shoot slugs out of a judge? How far does a Taurus Judge shoot? Can you shoot. Is a Taurus Judge worth it?
